Start an Awareness Exercise Routine

The seven audio sessions on this site are a simple exercise-based introduction to Aware Consciousness, including a detailed practical guide on how to get started with your own half hour daily awareness exercise routine. Once you have learned how to do the simple shift of awareness into Aware Consciousness that I'll show you, I recommend here that you strengthen and clarify that 'all day, every day' practise and give it resilience by getting into a meditative awareness exercise routine for half an hour every day, in pretty much the same way as you might do any other regular exercise routine - but instead of exercising your body to get fit, this is about exercising your awareness to be present. It’s a way to stay tuned into Aware consciousness all day, every day. Aware Consciousness is about choosing to live in the moment and loving the experience of being alive - rather than dwelling on the everyday dramas that can cast a shadow over everything in life.

Find somewhere to do the Exercises

To focus on these awareness exercises, with everything you need to know to practise Aware Consciousness, it's best to find a quiet and peaceful space where you can relax without being disturbed. I suggest that you lie on a bed, on top of the bedding, so that you are comfortable and relaxed and there's nothing to catch your attention when you look up at a blank ceiling with your eyes open. On the other hand, If you're a person who can't lie down without falling asleep, find somewhere quiet and peaceful where you can sit comfortably and gaze, with relaxed eyes, at a blank wall - or something equally unexciting! Don't forget to mute notifications and incoming calls on your phone and to clear your schedule so that you can focus on doing these exercises for half an hour without being disturbed.

'I might be an old man now but the first time I was conscious of falling in love with the whole of life and everything in it, it was 1974 and I was a complicated young man. Luckily, I had a mentor. He wasn’t a meditation or a mindfulness teacher, he was a Dutch sculptor called Rudi Rooijackers.Rudi introduced me to a whole new dimension of life that he called ‘Relative Time and Space’ and I found myself, for the first time, awake to and aware of the wonderful and amazing nature of Presence and the wholeness of life, right here, right now. All those complicated stories that I’d been calling my life suddenly released their grip on me and I found myself living in an amazing experiential world of Relative Time and Space and filled with a fascination and a love for the whole of life, in Presence.Fast forward 50 years and I hope I've finally found the words and the means to share this wonderful practice of Aware Consciousness with you. And remember, this is not about me being a teacher and you being a student, it's about you stepping up and stepping out and standing shoulder to shoulder with me, practicing Aware Consciousness in your own way, living in the moment and learning not to dwell on whatever stands in the way of you truly appreciating the experience of being alive, right now.
